TECHNOLOGY
SMART REGULATOR

The electric power used for the lights and fuel pump is produced by the motor generator. The power is captured by the regulator which then maintains the voltage at a constant level. Kawasaki’s Smart Regulator, developed for small-capacity models with a built-in microprocessor, controls the charging and headlamp functions.
This control allows charging to be carried out even when the motor is running at idling speed, which is when the voltage generated is at its lowest (provided that it is in standard conditions and no accessories are used), which is beyond the capabilities of most regulators. In addition, once the battery is fully charged, the Smart Regulator will turn off the charging function when the throttle is opened quickly. This will immediately reduce the electrical resistance of the generator, so that the energy used to drive the generator can be saved, which is usually wasted on small-capacity engines. By minimizing power losses, the Smart Regulator contributes to increased fuel efficiency.
